CDC: PCR detection is a more sensitive method to detect herpes virus DNA.
According to the 2015 CDC guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of genital herpes, POLYMERase chain reaction (PCR) detection of herpes virus DNA is more sensitive and can be used in place of virus culture, especially suitable for the diagnosis of central nervous system HSV infections and systemic HSV infections such as meningitis, encephalitis and neonatal herpes.
HSV1 is mainly transmitted through direct or indirect contact. It infects the oral cavity, skin mucosa, conjunctiva and central nervous system, causing gingival stomatitis, cold sore, pharyngitis, keratoconjunctivitis and herpetic encephalitis. The infection is contagious and a positive HSV1 DNA result indicates that the patient may be infected. HSV2 is usually sexually transmitted, invading the genitalia and genital mucosa, causing genital herpes. The virus can also be transmitted vertically through the placenta or the birth canal, causing miscarriage, premature birth, stillbirth or congenital malformations. Herpes in the reproductive tract of pregnant women can transmit the virus to the newborn during delivery. A positive HSV2 DNA test indicates a possible infection.
[Intended Use]
ultrassay Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) Type 1 & 2 RT PCR test kit is used for in vitro qualitative detection of Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 (HSV1) and herpes simples virus Type 2 (HSV2). To provide an auxiliary method for the diagnosis and treatment of patients suspected of herpes simplex virus infection.
